Is the monolith mix different to the original? (Sounds different to me) And if so which release has the original mix?
Nope; the 'mix' names were added to the Ignition release, but the tracks are exactly the same, in fact the Great Asset and Ignition releases are exactly the same pressings, just with different labels.
Am I right in thinking that the Ignition Records release of this is the 1st release? I always thought Great Asset was the original but looking at the Great Asset release it says In the notes that the IGN catalogue number is in the runout.
As Great Asset distributed both versions (under their own 'Great Asset' label plus the Ignition release), it's safe to assume either the Great Asset release came 1st, or they came at the same time. Why? Well, if the distributor had bought in the Ignition release to sell through & then knocked up their own version, this wouldn't have been good business. Plus if you look at both copies, Ignition & Great Asset, exactly the same vinyl blanks were used, exactly the same etchings, just different labels & sleeves. Both releases were managed by great asset, with their own label copy most likely doing the rounds first. The Ignition release looks very European & was perhaps done to appeal beyond the UK market. Extra names were added to the mixes, giving it some extra clout (tracks exactly the same on both versions), plus the art etc all looks more suited to a wider commercial release/bigger run. I'd say the Great asset were possibly upfront, & with less of them.
Can anyone tell me if the piano breakdown is an original composition or sampled from elsewhere?
I love module of this EP dark and moody, nice :)
Break sampled from 'KC & the Sunshine Band's - Let it go'.....amazing!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=joqaBv2FgQo&feature=related
Let's face it, Lock Up is the only tune that most will have bought this vinyl for and 18 years on it’s hard to believe how it can fit into so many different sets and still sound so fresh. I've played this in house sets, garage sets and of course in old skool hardcore sets and it fits into them all perfectly, albeit when it's pitched up a bit in tempo. What a classic tune!
