In his biography, Paul McCartney: Many Years from Now, McCartney recalled: So first of all I checked this melody out, and people said to me, ‘No, it’s lovely, and I’m sure it’s all yours. McCartney originally claimed he had written Yesterday during the Beatles’ tour of France in 1964; however, the song was not released until the summer of 1965. During the intervening time, the Beatles released two albums, A Hard Day’s Night and Beatles for Sale, both of which could have included Yesterday.

Honoree Sir Paul McCartney performs onstage during The 2012 MusiCares Person Of The Year Gala Honoring Paul McCartney in Los Angeles, California on February 10th, 2012. On his way to work this morning, Paul McCartney had to wait for some pedestrians at a white-striped crosswalk. They stood in groups, cameras in hand, blocking a tree-lined London street. As McCartney sat patiently in his SUV, none of them looked his way – the tourists were too busy taking pictures of themselves crossing Abbey Road

Here Today" is a song by Paul McCartney from his 1982 album Tug of War. McCartney wrote the song about his relationship with and love for John Lennon, who had been murdered two months before. He stated the song was composed in the form of an imaginary conversation the pair might have had. The song was produced by The Beatles' producer George Martin. Although not released as a single, the song reached on the Billboard Mainstream Rock charts.

The McCartney album was good fun, Paul remembers, because I got a machine from EMI, only a four-track, and I just had it in my living room where I lived in London at the time. I’d just go in for the day like Monsieur Magritte. Go in and do a little bit of stuff and make something up, and knock off in the evenings. It was very interesting to do and it had a certain kind of rawness, because I was breaking loose after The Beatles, we all got a feeling of that, I think. During the Beatles period I’d said to John, ‘I think I should do an album called Paul McCartney Goes Too Far  . Paul McCartney is not the first Beatles' member to release a solo album. John Lennon has already done some solo stuff like Two Virgins or The Wedding Album. Ringo Starr has just released Sentimental Journey in March 1970. And George Harrison works on a solo album too, All Things Must Pass being scheduled for November of that same year. Paul's solo album, simply entitled McCartney, doesn't please the critics because of its simplicity and its under-production. Anyway the album reaches in the charts, right behind Bridge Over Trouble Water by Simon and Garfunkel. Even today the complete Suicide recording can only be found on some bootleg albums. Then follow Junk which was written by Paul in 1968 during the Indian stay with the Beatles in Maharishi's home in Rishikesn. This is a simple and melancholic ballad played on the acoustic guitar.
