Wilhelm Richard Wagner (/ˈvɑːɡnər/, German: (listen); 22 May 1813 – 13 February 1883) was a German composer, theatre director, polemicist, and conductor who is chiefly known for his operas (or, as some of his later works were later known, "music dramas"). Unlike most opera composers, Wagner wrote both the libretto and the music for each of his stage works.

Also sprach Zarathustra (Thus spoke Zarathustra), op. 30. Franz Liszt. Concerto for Piano and Orchestra No. 1 in E flat major. Wagner confronted the differentiated masterworks of that genre such as Gioachino Rossini’s Guillaume Tell and Giacomo Meyerbeer’s Les Huguenots with a colossus that in certain respects still needed some fine-tuning, and even by grand opéra standards, Rienzi’s playing time of six hours was too long. For the libretto, he drew on the English author Edward Bulwer-Lytton’s novel Rienzi, the Last of the Roman Tribunes.

Wilhelm Richard Wagner was born in Leipzig, and it is thought that his real father was not the man who gave him his surname (Karl Friedrich Wagner who died when Richard was 6 months old) but the actor Ludwig Geyer who was then to become Wagner's stepfather and influence his early development. Geyer knew the composer Weber, but it was his literary interest that drew Wagner initially towards Classical and Shakespearean drama

Richard Wagner was married to Franz Liszt’s daughter, Cosima. When Wagner burst on the scene around 1842, he created a frenzy and many young composers sought to compose just as Wagner did. Liszt was equally famous as Wagner, primarily as a pianist. Much of Liszt’s piano music is almost unplayable. Wagner was not Liszt’s first son-in-law to be married to Cosima. Many musicologists believe that some of Liszt’s orchestrations had the touch of Wagner therein. Between those two giants, Wagner and Liszt, stood Cosima Wagner, nee Liszt. 674 views · View 1 Upvoter.
