Poems, Prayers & Promises is the fourth studio album by American singer-songwriter John Denver. It was released in April, 1971. This album was Denver's commercial breakthrough, and contained several of his most popular songs, such as "Poems, Prayers, and Promises", "My Sweet Lady", "I Guess He'd Rather Be in Colorado", "Sunshine on My Shoulders", and "Take Me Home, Country Roads", which would become one of Denver's signature songs.

After several albums in which he had allowed cover versions to dominate the sets, John Denver returned with an album, Poems, Prayers & Promises, in which he had written over half the songs. He should have had more confidence in his own songs, for this was at the beginning of a golden period for Denver when his songs would dominate the easy listening airwaves, especially his big hit singles.

Or maybe that’s just the charm of it, that which makes ‘Poems, Prayers & Promises’ so compelling. Simplistic as it may be, its spirit and outlook is certainly contagious – that of standing resilient and kind and perhaps even smiling in spite of it all. A yearning to live and live well, tucked between textured melodies and warm, oaken tones. Seeing the best in everything and everyone, including oneself, no matter how obscured. Brave, dumb positivity.

I'm not sure the pressing or mastering was the greatest. Some distortion on songs and dynamics seem limited. Great songs though!
