The Absence (Luna Mortis album). The Absence is the second studio album by the American metal band Luna Mortis. The album was released in 2009 by Century Media and is the first studio album that Luna Mortis released through that record label. Four of the tracks on the album were recorded in February 2008 with producer Jason Suecof at his Audio Hammer Studios and were used as a demo that was sent out only to record labels in hopes of acquiring a recording contract for the band.
But no, Luna Mortis are indeed rooted in more progressive terrain, paying visits to a wide spectrum of heavy metal subgenres throughout this debut album, but doing so with an unusual songwriting concision that would be the envy of most acts, never mind the long-winded proggies

Upon first inspection, Luna Mortis may not strike you as anything more than a band with a neat name and a female singer-things a lot of newer bands these days have. The fact that they’re listed as progressive metal here may cause the fans of that community to raise their heads a little, but other than that, you probably won’t notice anything outwardly awesome by just looking at them here. The band, with their sophomore album The Absence, finds them effortlessly flowing from one style to another. More importantly, however, is the fact they do it well. The album starts off right away on the song Ash with a great thrash-style riff that quickly, but easily, transitions to something much more melodic as the first verse starts up. One of the great things about this band is singer Mary Zimmer’s vocals. Her voice, unlike that of many other female singers currently in metal, is not operatic or soprano-like at all.

Through the storm Fires burning deep inside these walls Invisible in twilight Nightmares and memories Entwined to stake a claim on sanity. They fall around me The remnants of the past Take time in purgatory Broken inside me Draw strength from what has gone And I will carry on.
