Distant Drums" is a song which provided US singer Jim Reeves with his only UK No. 1 hit – albeit posthumously – in the United Kingdom in 1966, some two years after his death in a plane crash on 31 July 1964. The song remained in the UK Singles Chart for 45 weeks. The single also topped the US country chart for four weeks, becoming his most successful posthumous single. Although Roy Orbison had recorded the song in 1963, it is Reeves' version of "Distant Drums" which has endured over the years.

Distant Drums is a 1951 American "Florida Western" film directed by Raoul Walsh and starring Gary Cooper. It is set during the Second Seminole War in the 1840s, with Cooper playing an Army captain who destroys a fort held by the Spanish gunrunners then retreats into the Everglades while under chase. The actual location of the fort in the film was the historic Castillo de San Marcos in St. Augustine, Florida, where most of the filming took place.

gr Active from 1980 until 1983 in the new wave, post-punk scene of Colchester (eg. Modern English), they had given numerous concerts at the time (playing along with Troops For Tomorrow, supporting The Passage etc). Their sole release was the nowadays extra-rare 'Perfect Eyes, Halloween' 7" single, which is currently traded among collectors for pretty high prices in the second-hand vinyl market. "Limited to 250 copies. One pressing. EXCLUSIVELY available to Soul Jazz Records/Sounds of the Universe customers." Artificial scarcity. Single sided? What a laugh. Call me hater but such makes me puke. And no, I could afford. Don't want this kinda obnoxious bizz.
Why is kuma.chan moaning about 'flippers'? He has countless M, unplayed records for sale on here at hiked prices, including this LP for £50: https://www.discogs.com/sell/item/556127710 . Why is that OK? Is it a question of temporal distance from the point of original sale? I don't know ( - who knows how he resolves things in his mind?). What I do know, though, is that records are a commodity (hence the term Marketplace), same as a bag of sugar, same as a house, same as a painting by Van Gogh, etc, etc. Essentially they are worthless, possessing no intrinsic value. Rather, their value - market value - is determined on the basis of what someone is prepared to pay at a specific moment in time. This means that a record's value can rise, can diminish, or can remain more or less static. To do what kuma.chan did, which, by his own account, was to pay a sum he was unhappy with then leave negative feedback for the seller, is risible and pathetic. He is a victim of his own desire seeking to blame someone else for his victimhood. But it isn't their fault. It is his fault, as is his hypocrisy with the M unplayed records he's selling on here.
Snake Rocking
Oh i'm not upset. You can do as you please with your records, as can the person you've boasted about trolling. Make no mistake, a twisted version of trolling is what you have done to them. Your protestations here are among the most disingenuous things i have read all year. Goodbye.
I have other things I prefer to listen to rather than records I've decided I no longer wish to keep. I don't see you getting upset about things I am selling for less than retail price which far outnumber those that are selling for more?
You bought it and left it sealed. Hmm. You say this is because you never got round to playing it. Well, since you bought it to listen to but "never got around to" doing that, why not open it now and give it a listen instead of trying to sell it for a profit? And while you're at it, why not open all the other sealed records you have for sale and listen to them, too?
I hardly thinking putting a 3 year old record that was part of a subscription that I never got around to play qualifies me as a flipper.
I'm not sure what Soul Jazz'z thinking is on this. It's obvious they could have sold twice as many at this price and a lot more at a reasonable price. It looks to me like they are losing loyal customers and making the flippers money. I just don't see the up side for them. Guess I'll have to wait a few years until the price comes down, meanwhile, I'll just have to make do with a Youtube rip.
And if it was one per customer how come "Raritiesworld" on eBay (more like Flippersworld) got two copies?
You can create as much account you want and order one er account ... I think it is like this
Yes here is the same....a few sellers that sell plenty copies. Its strange at all...why is it usefull to press a 12" with one track on it?! Senseless.....raise funds seems to be the only interest.
A way to sell at high price 1 tune with, say, nothing extraordinary (good-ok with that- does not mean exceptionnal : have a listen and you can understand why Coxsone never put it out). Just a business crook affair. Imagine these price X 20 tunes instead of a CD price with all tunes... must I say ? That one was not sold out when I linked but I did not buy that. Still waiting on something heavier than lead anyway. Then I could go on it even if its bitter to the belly as some once said.
Why "SJR Dubplate 4"? It's not the second 12" of the series?
why press 250 when more people want to to buy it.total madness
Very Old Chap
I think that product is destinated to collectors. The way it done is to be rare and not able to everyone to grab it. If you want to listen it you can record the sample or listen to youtube
i got the email notification around 11:57 am .....the record was sold out around 2:00 pm Timezone Germany.
Funny I always get the email about the *NEW* product after it is sold out.
Same here. I also had the same with the Black people dub plate by Alton Ellis & Cedric Brooks where people are selling it for ten times it's original retail price. In a word ridiculous.
That one didn't last long! *sigh* another £50 goes to a flipper rather than an artist, label or store. Someone at Soul Jazz needs a kicking for only putting 300 copies out.
Soul Jazz did reply to me when I asked them if they would repress this, they basically said something along the lines of "fuck you" and this won't be repressed and was intentionally released in small numbers as a marketing stunt for a new compilation. I won't be buying that compilation as some flipper will take away the funds to buy the next four Soul Jazz releases.
I clicked on the email today as soon as it came in and the website said sold out already....nuts. Clearly there is hefty demand for these, should at least make 500 copies in my humble opinion...
Couldn't agree more. And if you aren't in the UK it's sold out before you even wake up in the morning.
