Early Riser is the debut studio album released by Taylor McFerrin on June 2, 2014 through Brainfeeder. The album took nearly six years to complete. McFerrin intended to sing on the entire record before realizing that it was not always necessary for him to sing over his music. Working on an album over a couple of years, you go through this stage of loving a song and then hating a song, then sometimes you need the space to listen back to it and realize that it was really dope after all.

Taylor McFerrin's debut Early Riser has been in the oven for a while. In the fall of 2010, a three-track sampler briefly made the rounds, and then not much else was heard in the intervening years from the umentalist and son of improv legend Bobby McFerrin. Now the album's arrived on Brainfeeder-Flying Lotus' ever-expanding imprint that has become a haven for artists who consider themselves neither round nor square pegs-there are traces of that original sampler that remain
Taylor McFerrin – Early Riser. Genre: Jazz, Funk, Soul. I bought this album because it features Marcus Gilmore on drums. It's hard to categorize this album (neo-soul? ambiant? jazz?), which may explain why I like it so much. Reply Notify me Helpful. YES YES! one hell of a journey througg sound. i thought it would be much more jazzy but it actually gives off an incredible hip hop vibe too.
Early Riser is a more focused, less whimsical Flying Lotus. The creative textures, apt guest appearances, and jazzy divergences are justified, because McFerrin backs up his sound with solid enough songwriting and structure. This album is laden (yet not encumbered) with jazzy percussion and a general smooth electronic sound. It bears a mix of lush bass, downtempo, key-based ostinato, and a general dream-like quality, akin to Until the Quiet Comes. Taylor Mcferrin has strong potential and he has skyrocketed up my list of closest-watched artists today. I am in firm believe this guy isn’t getting the recognition he deserves, and hope you all can feel the same.
t Taylor McFerrin navigated a long, winding road before arriving at this place, the release of his debut album, Early Riser. Over several years, McFerrin – who plays all the instruments and provides all the vocals for a majority of the album – recorded hundreds of songs before settling on the final 12 for Riser. Life+Times: This has been a long process for you creating this album. Talk about what you went through deciding what to include and how you worked through it. Taylor McFerrin: Well my dream has always been to do a record in the vain of Shuggie Otis, Stevie Wonder or Prince, where I’m doing absolutely everything. So my initial goal was to be playing every instrument and singing on every track. It was taking me a long time to really find my voice, my style as a vocalist.
Taylor McFerrin - Early Riser Bobby McFerrin's 1988 pop hit "Don't Worry, Be Happy" is guaranteed to bring back memories for listeners of a certain age. His son Taylor's debut album for Brainfeeder is unlikely to have the same effect, but it is, in its own oblique way, a curiously nostalgic record.
Album · 2014 · 12 Songs. Robert Glasper, Terrace Martin, Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah, Derrick Hodge, Taylor McFerrin & Justin Tyson). Vincent Parker) - Single.
