Album · 2017 · 25 Songs. With performances as neat as the title’s play on words, Alon Sariel has arranged a nicely varied programme of concertos by Georg Philipp Telemann for mandolin and ensemble. The delicate and beguiling sound of his instrument is complemented by Ensemble Foscari, who are equally light on their feet, bringing rhythmic life to this oft-overlooked repertoire. These are pieces that leave no doubt that Telemann was one of the greats, rightly admired by his friend JS Bach. Telemandolin Concerto Foscari.

Telemandolin Concerto Foscari & Alon Sariel. Booklet for Telemandolin. Label: Berlin Classics. Alon Sariel and the ensemble Concerto Foscari, which he has directed for several years now, draws on small instrumental forces, with one player assigned to each part, so as to ensure maximum flexibility and transparency in their music. The ensemble comprises seven young musicians from across Europe, who all perform on period instruments and bring their own experiences into play. In this way, each and every work is given its own distinctive tone colour: now unusual, audacious and challenging; now very melodious and virtuosic.
Alon Sariel: Telemandolin. March 16, 2018 Tyran Grillo. Georg Philipp Telemann (1681-1767) is the subject of this superbly realized album by mandolinist Alon Sariel, who has arranged the music on Telemandolin for an instrument that, while popular in the German composer’s day, was never one he wrote for. Much has been said, at times critically, of Telemann’s influence and prolific output, but in Sariel’s hands such debate is shed like a skin of unimportance by an undeniable vitality
