They released a mini-album entitled "Mr Manager" (1986), and these two records reached cult hit status in the US clubs. The band played across Europe and the States. Entitled "Guilty", their last album came out in 89 and pushed the Hot vs Cold, Robotic vs African paradox to the limit. The alliance between Congolese musician/vocalist Bony Bikaye, and French composer Hector Zazou started with 'Noir et Blanc', the unsurpassed afro/electro milestone recorded in 1983 with experimental electronic music composers CY1, and just reissued on vinyl.

Zazou Bikaye: Mr. Manager Zairean Bony Bikaye's Felaesque chants (sans agitprop, avec Afrobeat girls) provide the identity, but the substructure is all French-Algerian Hector Zazou, whose synth arrangements are praised for their orchestral density and distinguished by their propulsive linearity. Most of the Afrogallic music I've heard makes too much (Toure Kunda) or too little (Manu Dibango) of its Africanness. This strikes me as an original balance: minimalist Eurodisco that trades for pseudoprimitivism.

Resulting from a torrid encounter between Congolese singer Bony Bikaye, Algerian-born French composer Hector Zazou and mad scientists CY1, the first Zazou Bikaye album was acclaimed by the international music press (who immediately compared it to Byrne & Eno’s ‘Bush Of Ghosts’, or to an imaginary meeting between Fela Kuti and Kraftwerk.
