The Complete John Peel Sessions is an album released by Scottish alternative band The Jesus and Mary Chain. It comprises the sessions the group recorded for the late Radio 1 DJ John Peel on his late night radio show from 23 October 1984 to 26 November 1989. Peel was an early supporter of the band and gave them well needed publicity which they were unable to gain from the majority of other DJs and music programs of the day who concentrated mostly on the Synthpop craze sweeping the 1980s.
Though a couple of Peel Session EPs had snuck out in the late eighties, it wasn't until this long overdue and utterly worthwhile collection surfaced that all the various recordings the Birthday Party had made over years for John Peel finally saw official release.

THE BIRTHDAY PARTY Bully Bones (John Peel Sessions) (Album: Live 1981-82, 1999). Originally released on James’ 1971 album Mud Slide Slim & The Blue Horizon, You Can Close Your Eyes has been covered dozens of times, most notably by Linda Ronstadt in 1974. James has also performed it with Carole King and Bonnie Raitt among others over the years, and one of his 3 live duets with Joni Mitchell (a 1970 John Peel session) has rightly become virtually canonical.
