The debut solo album by singer Camila Cabello, the eponymously titled Camila, is a warmly produced set of romantic pop, punctuated by several rhythmically infectious Latin-influenced tracks informed by her Cuban heritage. Notably, Camila comes roughly two years after Cabello's much publicized departure from the all-female pop ensemble Fifth Harmony. While her exit begged some concerns (was she a self-centered diva? Or just a singer with an abundance of personality and creative drive?), the release of several pre-album singles, most notably the deliciously steamy, piano-driven "Havana" (featuring rapper Young Thug), largely turned audiences in her favor.
I will drive to you my dear, in your old blue car. As wasted days become clear, the light is where you are. I've dreamed of days away from here, a picture perfect heart. Everything we used to fear, this is where we start. Whoa, whoa, whoa I could drive all night. Whoa, whoa, whoa I could drive all night, with the windows down, down, down with the windows down, down, down with the windows down, down, down I could drive all night. Hey. Havana, ooh na-na (ayy) Half of my heart is in Havana, ooh na-na (ayy, ayy) He took me back to East Atlanta, na-na-na, ah Oh, but my heart is in Havana (ayy) There's somethin' 'bout his manners (uh huh) Havana, ooh na-na (uh). As Crying in the Club won’t be included on the album, Havana is the lead single of the record. Camila has publicly stated that some people doubted that Havana had the potential of being a single, including herself. The album started off more serious - dealing with relationship stuff, dealing with a lot of heartbreak, dealing with a lot of life things, with the Fifth Harmony thing. It started off darker, but then towards the end, it lightened up because of where she was in her life. She felt more liberated.
