Down to Earth is the fourth studio album by the British hard rock band Rainbow. It is their last album to feature drummer Cozy Powell and their only album with vocalist Graham Bonnet. Released in 1979, it contains Rainbow's first hit single "Since You Been Gone", marking a more commercial direction of the band's sound. The writing of Down to Earth began at Ritchie Blackmore's house in Connecticut in December 1978.

Listen to Rainbow's 'Down to Earth'. Erstwhile Deep Purple partner Roger Glover was initially hired merely as producer, but wound up taking over bass-playing duties from the recently departed Bob Daisley. He'd write most of the lyrics on Down to Earth, to boot. That opened the door for new singer Joe Lynn Turner, and turned Down to Earth into a one-off moment for Bonnet. Rainbow, however, would continue down a path toward the MOR mainstream over the course of four more studio efforts - and another lead singer in Doogie White - before Blackmore ditched it all for a move into ren-faire folk.
Unfortunately, Bonnet tends to oversell his vocals, screaming a little bit too often, but he doesn't distract from the fact that Blackmore, Glover, and drummer Cozy Powell turn Down to Earth into a fine hard rock platter. It might not offer anything unique, but it delivers the goods.
As unbelievable as it sounds, Down to Earth is an album that works tremendously well for its approach. It holds no candle up to the Dio Years, but that was already an impossible feat to achieve from the beginning. Blackmore gets the maximum out of his new direction, as well as out of his formation.
