Charles & Eddie were an American soul music duo composed of Charles Pettigrew and Eddie Chacon. They are primarily known for their single "Would I Lie to You?", taken from their 1992 debut album, Duophonic. The song won Ivor Novello Awards in 1993 in the Best Contemporary Song, Best Selling Song and International Hit of the Year categories. Pettigrew and Chacon were rumored to have met on the New York City Subway in 1990.
Duophonic, however, isn't hardcore soul, and no one will mistake this release for a Temptations album from 1970. Rather, Charles & Eddie show their appreciation of classic soul in a very pop-friendly way, and the obvious comparisons include Simply Red, Terence Trent d'Arby, and Culture Club

Though some would call them a one hit wonder, I think this debut album is outstanding. In addition to the mesmerizing hit, the song just before it "Can you believe this City?" clearly points to their roots.
