An American Prayer is the ninth and final studio album by the Doors. In 1978, seven years after lead singer Jim Morrison died and five years after the remaining members of the band broke up, Ray Manzarek, Robby Krieger, and John Densmore reunited and recorded backing tracks over Morrison's poetry (originally recorded in 1969 and 1970).

Producer – Paul A. Rothchild. Producer – Frank Lisciandro. Producer – John Densmore, Ray Manzarek, Robby Krieger. Producer – Bruce Botnick, The Doors. Remastered By – Bruce Botnick, Paul A. Technician – Bob Ingebretsen, Dr. Thomas Stockham.

Moody and mesmerizing, An American Prayer is an interesting album of Jim Morrison reading his poetry over the Doors' music. An American Prayer was finished by the remaining members of the Doors after Morrison's death and finally released in 1978 (it was remastered and re-released in 1995 with bonus tracks). Those familiar with the lyrics of the Doors will not be surprised, but others may be put off because Morrison is unafraid to use crude imagery and talk unabashedly about taboo topics such as sex and religion. Although many dismiss his poetry as simplistic random musings, Morrison.

The Doors recorded six studio albums with Jim Morrison as their singer from 1967 to 1971, hitting the charts with a series of pop songs that were at least as good as Tommy James and the Shondells. On their albums, they indulged in Morrison's pretentious obsessions that included extended pieces about Oedipal complexes and the end of the world. This album is a perfect compilation of music and poetry (for lack of a different label). First off, anyone who is offended by the "vulgarity" of the album wouldn't strike me as someone who would appreciate Jim anyway. No, Jim doesn't focus on specific rhyme or syllabic patterns.

An American Prayer Tracklist. 2. The Ghost Song by Jim Morrison (Ft. The Doors) Lyrics. About An American Prayer. This was the last album that still had Jim Morrison in it, but was released well after he passed away. it’s one of those really specific albums that you eather really love, or really hate with a passion, and that’s about exactly the critics response. Some hailed it as Morrison’s best, while others said if he heard it, he’d be rolling in his grave. It has a very specific sound compared to all of the other door’s albums. And while most of their albums had their own unique sound, this one didn’t necessarily have songs as one might normally think of them.
