the best mix besides the original mix

the C Dock dub*
With due respect to the previous reviewer, I prefer the 4007 mix. It's like a Jazzy joy ride compared to the 'school run' House mixes on the other side. Okay, I'll admit it. I'm a big fan of Acid Jazz. Maybe I'm biased. But who is C-Dock? His full name is Charles James Dockins. He's American and he sings, plays keyboard, composes, arranges, DJs, mixes and produces. Impressive. Oh, and he had a few prior releases in his full name. For the record, they were all 100% House.Back to this release. On the intro, we're stuck in a traffic jam (the sound you've heard countless times at the cinema) but soon we start to move as a toe-tapping Broken Beat drum part enters the mix. And before you know it the tune moves up a gear with the introduction of a simple pattern of synchopated chord stabs played on a synth. Very Jazz Fusion. And it 's this combination that provides the canvas for the flowing sax workout that follows. Yet this is no self-indulgent jazz jam. The sax riffs are catchy and there's great use of the build-up and release structure that's familiar to House music lovers. Nor is it predictable. Watch out for a gear change half way through. And if you're a DJ playing this to a jazz-dance crowd, try not to fade out when the traffic stops moving again late in the track - it's just a hold up before the final outro where the sax really flies over, what has become by then, a full-on House beat.I'm no House music connoisseur, and C-Dock's House may well be in order, but just from the feel of this track, I suspect that jazz is closer to this man's soul. The 4007 mix will sound great at home or on the dancefloor but, for added authenticity, this is a tune you should really listen to in the car.
Definitely Charles Dockins best release to date! The 4007 mix is a proper live jam but the real gem here is the dub, a simple yet devastating groove which basically consists of break beats, high hats, a bass line and a wicked sax line!! This is one of those tracks that sounds as fresh today as when it was released and probably for the next 20 years as well!!! Wicked
